>> My passion for research comes from a deep fascination with biological systems and a drive to make a difference. Growing up in Sri Lanka, surrounded by coral reef conservation efforts, I was captivated by the ocean and aquatic animals. With a growing passion for molecular biology during my undergrad years, I pursued graduate studies as a molecular ecologist at the University of Toronto with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Over time, I shifted my focus to biomedical research, applying my knowledge and skills to study addiction, neuropathology and mental health, recognizing the critical importance of community well-being. I continue to cherish the ocean, finding solace in the presence of water. Whether I’m unwinding on the beach, swimming laps, or enjoying a game of volleyball, these activities help me maintain a sense of structure and balance in my life.
