Erica Vieira

Principal Investigator

Over the past decade, Dr. Erica Vieira’s research has focused on neuroimmunology, bridging basic and translational investigations. Her primary work involves assessing peripheral biomarkers in psychiatric and neurological disorders to elucidate the connection between the periphery and the central nervous system. As a Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, her lab is dedicated to exploring the role of peripheral biomarkers and extracellular vesicles in neurodegenerative disorders, mood disorders, and cognitive dysfunction. With over 145 publications in prestigious journals, including JAMA Psychiatry, Brain, and Nature Mental Health, she is a principal and co-investigator on several, including Discovery Fund, Womenmind, CIHR, and NIH grants, advancing the use of peripheral biomarkers and extracellular vesicles as biosignatures in neuropsychiatric illnesses across lifespan.
